Most of us who are familiar with the basic know-abouts of a working computer, must also know the importance, a storage unit holds in the process. What would be the point of doing an effort and time seeking job, if you wouldn’t be able to save your progress every time you take a break? Much like our own brain, the storage unit helps us to gather and store data in a computer for our convenience. The most commonly used storage devices of today are broadly of two types, namely: Hard Disk Drives (HDD) and Solid State Drives (SSD). Let us now discuss the difference between the two.
Hard Disk Drives are enclosures containing a series of platters covered by a ferromagnetic coating. The direction of the magnetisation represents the individual bits. The data we feed in is read and written by a head that paces from one area of the disk to another. All of these pieces in a hard disk, are “mechanical”, and hence, the process takes time to complete. This makes an hard disk the slowest and most fragile component of any computer.
So, this was the age old mechanism that we have been using for a while now. Solid State Drives, on the other hand, are newer types of disks. These store information on flash memory, which consists of individual memory cells. Flash memory eliminates the limitation brought in by the mechanical hard disks. Storing bits that are instantly accessible by the controller, an SSD does work comprehensively faster than a hard disk drive.
Are you here to buy hard drive, but are feeling challenged by the lack of proper guidance? Online hard disk purchase can be tricky- allow us to help you! Wondering what storage type to buy could be a genuine concern for any user. Understanding the need, staying within the budget and getting the work done is what matters while making an online hard disk purchase. Are you a gamer? Well, if you are planning to buy hard drive, faster loading speeds might just be the key to your need. SSDs, as mentioned above, provide a substantially faster load time, as compared to traditional hard disks. If you are someone who is looking for a lot of storage space, but could do with slower read and write speeds, hard disk drives would be the cheapest way out for you. For the best mix of both, if you may need, you could also install both hard disk and solid state drives in your system. The system files and the most frequently used files could be stored in an SSD for faster processing, while the other lesser used files could be stored in a cheaper yet spacious hard disk.
